Mount Eniwa climbing

Mount Eniwa is a mountain characterized by a large rock tower at its summit, as its name, derived from the Ainu word E-en-iwa (pointed mountain), suggests. The rock tower at the summit (1,320m above sea level) is currently collapsing and is extremely dangerous. Climbing should be limited to the second observation deck at around 1,200m above sea level.
Mount Eniwa is the highest mountain around Lake Shikotsu. The hiking trail is steep and there is a ropeway.
Mount Eniwa is also an active volcano. Please check the latest volcano information before climbing.
